Hello everyone, my name is Anthony Tumwesigye. In February 2025 you could read my testimonial on this website and I’d like to give you an update on how I’m getting on. I’m a carpenter and I work in Bwindi Buhoma. I’m the proud owner of KK Wood Works. I started out in May 2024 and it was difficult at first. Slowly but surely, I got used to the situation and people began to get to know me and gave me some work. Over time, I found myself missing a few basic tools. As I had saved up, I bought them and was able to carry on working steadily.
Mainly I make indoor and outdoor furniture, such as doors, chairs, cupboards, beds, tables and wardrobes, to name a few. In my work, I meet various customers with different personalities. Some are easy to get on with, others aren’t, for example because they demand more than agreed. It can happen that, whilst carrying out my work, we are unable to realize a particular design due to a lack of specific tools. As a result, we lose a customer, which is a great loss for us.
It always was my wish to teach children carpentry and now I also have a young boy working with me whom I am teaching the wonderful trade of carpentry. He is a good student and likes it a lot. And sometimes I hire people to help me when I have a job. It is a major challenge for us, especially as the rent is high where we work, particularly as we don’t have many contracts.
Because of lack of space I’ve also made a few new extensions to my workshop. A place to saw wood and also a space to store it.
All in all, I’m really happy with my workshop. I’m doing the work I love, and it’s great to be my own boss.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the organization that has supported me throughout all this. Ronald and Justus still pop round regularly to see how I’m getting on.
I wish you all a long life, with God’s favor and protection.
